Held Gavia 2in1 Gore-Tex Gloves – REVIEWED

I sold my soul to Held gloves many years ago. I have many brands of gloves I have acquired over the years, but I wear Held gloves. I wear them because I think they are the best gloves on the market. So, any gloves of any brand I review invariably have to stack up against the Held gear. Most don’t.

Anyway, I have been rocking Held’s 2-into-1 gauntlets for the last few years. Don’t need new ones, because Held gear seems to last and last. But then Made In Germany, the Australian distributor, got in touch and said Held has created and updated its 2-into-1, all-season numbers, and made a shorty version. And sent me a pair.

After two hours in the rain down the Putty.

If you’re wondering what 2-into-1 gloves are, it’s a simple and brilliant idea. One glove with two chambers – a warm, Gore-Tex chamber for cold days and rain, and another chamber which is just a normal vented leather race-type glove.

And before you ask, the inner-lining does not follow your hand out of the wet glove when you take it off. And you wonder why I love them.

Anyway, I have become a fan of shorty gloves in the last few years. They’re easier to get on and off, and don’t give me any bunching jacket-sleeve issues. I was keen. And once again, found validation.

The new Gavia gloves are somehow even better in terms of warmth and water-resistance. Few things in the motorcycle world are truly waterproof, but these Gavias are as near as you could get without resorting to dishwashing gloves.

I have been wearing them on everything I ride, and right throughout winter. They’re good for temps in the low single digits, and I spent two consecutive days slabbing to and from Sydney in the pouring rain – my hands were fine. To say the gear we have available to us these days is amazing is an understatement.

Come the warmer weather, I just slide my hands into the other  chamber and I have a brilliant warm-weather glove.

This year, Held has added NUDUD technology to the right index finger. It’s a tiny circle of special material that allows you to poke at your phone or touch-screen without the device ignoring you. Does it work? Yep. You have to be precise, but that stands to reason. The technology does work – wet or dry.

These are a premium glove with all the bells and whistles – knuckle armour, kangaroo leather palm, a visor wiper on your left index finger, Armaprotec reinforcement at the ball of your thumb, and much more. They come in a myriad of sizes as well as for short or long fingers. And a five-year warranty.

Life’s too short to wear shit gloves. Don’t do it.
