We are men. And we are men who ride motorcycles. Of course, some of us are women, who are thankfully not men, but I am not of that tribe, so I do not presume to address women with the needs and expectations of men.
Still. When it comes to the riding of bikes, our paths converge.

All of us who ride are hugely interested in waterproof motorcycle boots. We are also hugely interested in boots that are comfortable, light, and offer protection. Our interest is also held by boots that last and do what it says on the box.
For some of us, if those boots also look good and people say: “Gee, they’re good-looking boots”, we like that. And there’s a small percentage of us, and I am among them, who would like a pair of boots we can wear all day and then maybe go dancing in at night. Dancing is important, because girls like to dance, and men who dance with girls are scientifically proven to be more attractive to said girls.

So, when I find a pair of boots that tick all of those boxes, I can only draw the conclusion that these are boots I need to be wearing.
Behold the new Montaro WP riding boots. They do all of the above.
But they also have other features that make them great boots.
Firstly, they are insanely light. They are like a pair of runners in that regard. This makes them super-comfy.

Secondly, they have laces made of paracord. Now I know some of you will sniff at this and say: “Laces are shit because there is a chance they can get caught on the bike when I have arseholed myself. And it’s happened to me/my mate/someone I don’t know.”
I agree. There is that chance. But it is as likely as a Cessna hitting you in the face, or Sydney Sweeney giving you her panties and a good time.
We are men, as I said, so let’s not be stupid bitches about laces. They’re a good idea on a boot because it allows you to tighten the fit of that boot – especially since boots stretch over time – and a boot that fits you properly is way better than a boot that feels like you’re wearing a Croc. I spent many years riding in Johnny Rebs. I know what I am talking about there.
And lastly, look how sassy that red sole and red accents are. The only other item of footwear that has a red sole, is the famous Louboutin sex-heel for hot chicks – the sexiest and cruellest stiletto a girl can wear.

I’ve been banging around in these Montaros for a while now. It has rained on me. My feet stayed dry. Only my Daytona boots have ever done that in the past. But they aren’t anywhere near as pretty as these. Daytona does function over form. Held holds both qualities to be of equal import.
I have also walked many kilometres in them, and there has been a bit of dancing. Now, you may never dance in them, but you know damn well you do need to be able to walk in your riding boots. Comfort is then everything, isn’t it?
So, what are they made of? The outer shell is a textile and microfibre mix. The lining is a soft polyester, and importantly, the membrane is a HELD-TEX climate membrane, which is waterproof, windproof, and breathable.

The killer red sole is heavy-duty rubber and there is a gearshift pad. Of course there is. It’s a bike boot. There is also good ankle protection, which is to be expected.
I have worn this German Held gear almost exclusively now for more than a decade. It is my go-to gear for every kind of ride. And you all know I have all the brands in my cupboard. I chose this one because it works, and it lasts. I have no doubt the Montaro boots will do likewise as we move forward in our relationship.
Just quietly, this is kinda shit if you’re a “Giz the latest gear!” kinda dick. I can’t call Ray every six months and ask him for new stuff because the stuff he gave me five, six, or even ten years ago, still looks and works perfectly well. And I am hard on my gear.
Here’s the good bit. A top-shelf pair of waterproof boots can set back upwards of $500. I think this is a great investment. But I understand it’s still a lot of coin to explain away to the wife.
