HELD STOCKTON CORDURA JEANS – THE JEAN SUPREME

Mankind’s endless search for the ideal riding jean may well have ended.

I feel this in my waters and the parts of my body that hold my waters – which is exactly where all the important decisions are made. And which is also the first part of me that hits the ground in the event of an oopsie.

Ray told me, as he handed them over: “These are the most comfortable riding pants you’ve ever worn.”

“I have ridden in tracksuit pants,” I replied. “Be hard to beat that.”

And of course I did not believe him. More fool me. Ray tells me a lot of things about his Held products, and he hasn’t been wrong yet. But I am me, and I doubt all things until I suck upon them and see.

It’s always awkward asking your mates to take pictures of your pants.

So I sucked and saw.

They are indeed the most comfortable riding jeans I have ever worn. They stretch. They therefore allow my manly waters to move unimpeded through my lower regions, just as the Road Gods intended.

They are so comfortable, I actually went a waist-size down to get a better fit, and that made me feel very good about myself. I could have a decent lunch and not have to go a hole up on my belt on the way home. Tell me that shit isn’t important. I dare you.

So what do we have here? Does the meet or exceed my expectations?

In terms of comfort, absolutely. The material is thick Cordura cotton – which breaths better than a race-horse’s lungs – but does not bunch at the back of my knees if I’m doing sportsbike stuff. The cut is right for riding, and like I said, the jeans stretch.

The best armour for jeans you can get. Look at the coverage.

They are also armoured with Ghost D30 adaptive armour at the knees and hips. You can adjust the knee armour up or down for the ideal placement, but the hip armour sits where it sits. If you have child-bearing hips, buy the girl-cut jeans (Yes, held is one of the few companies that makes female-specific motorcycle clothing throughout almost all of its range), and be happy.

They come in two cuts – straight leg and slim – and mine are the straight leg because there’s nothing slim about me at all, and I’m not of the age when snake-hipped she-jeans would be flattering.

There is even a coccyx pocket where you can tuck some extra armour in case you need your emerging prehensile tail cared for.

Work just fine on a sportsbike.

What is this D30 Ghost armour? It’s magic, basically. It’s soft until impact, when it instantly hardens. So absolute comfort until something bad happens. And if something bad happens, the least of your concerns is comfort. That’s when you get all about protection.

Thus have they become my go-to riding pant. I have had them for about six months – summer into winter – and they have been through the wash maybe 40 times. Not a stitch out of place.

I don’t roll mine up, but you do you.

They come with a two-year guarantee, as all top-quality products should, and these German jobbies are all that, and more.

Expectations exceeded in comfort and style – and all for a most reasonable $350.

And riding motorcycles. He's pretty keen on that, too.
